Surely any hunter has tried or at least thought of trying rabbit hunting at least one in his lifetime. Given that it’s so popular even today, it doesn’t seem awkward at all that everybody is on a rabbit hunting fever whenever the season is kicking off. However, if you haven’t already experienced it and still think whether or not to go on that hunting field, then maybe a brief review on this particular type of hunting will make you think about it no more. Read on for essential facts about rabbit hunting, some of which even experienced hunter may not know.

Firstly, rabbit and hare hunting is a worldwide spread phenomenon, managing to attract hunters of all ages and social background. The biggest problem this hunting variety faces towards common belief is that few people consider it a serious and tough type of hunting, such as boar for instance. This is because very few people, compared to the masses, know what rabbit hunting is all about and how difficult it can get, even with the help of man’s best friend. Nevertheless, those that fully understand this give it the appreciation it deserves, and make their contribution to changing people’s inherited ideas felt. In addition, with sustained efforts rabbits and hares are slowly becoming evenly accepted among the mot popular game types in many areas. This comes as a logical consequence of these creatures’ amazing features, which makes hunting them an extremely complicated process.

From the start you should know that rabbits are no example of evolutionary stagnation; they’ve developed sensationally keen senses which allow them to defend against predators. Their preferred tactic is avoiding a direct confrontation, and their amazing sight and hearing abilities make detecting a threat from quite a distance. Also, they have a wonderfully adapted sense of smell, which is useful not only in its survival as predator radar, but in finding food also. In fact, all these great sensorial aptitudes, coupled with the ability to camouflage perfectly into the bush, are like a protective aura for the little creature, a shield meant to keep danger always one step behind. Speaking of steps, the rabbits “super-power” is its famous ability to sprint vivaciously and at high speeds, as well as its legendary and somewhat unexpected endurance.

The spot-and-run strategy has served the little varmint well throughout the ages, but facing a pack of hunting beagles even this is often not enough to save its life. Beagles are specially trained hounds that rely exclusively on their smell to chase and kill rabbits, and bringing a pack along with you on your hunting sessions will surely make a difference. However, no pack of beagles, no matter how well trained and experienced, will do the whole hunt because you, s hunter, play an essential role in the final success. It is up to you to guide them if they loose track of the rabbit, as well as ordering them which rabbit to chase in case several of them pop from bushes as they sense danger.

As you can see, rabbit hunting is more than a Sunday afternoon kind of sport, forcing you to make decision strategically, make every opportunity count and to give your best every time. Hunting experts guarantee that no hunt will be similar to the next, which means that routine is not in rabbit hunting dictionary under the letter “R”. Or at all.

If you plan on hunting goose in the early season you should scout in order to find out which zones the birds prefer to rest in and which areas have the crucial food sources needed before the season begins. If you plan on hunting on water be sure to check which of the surroundings wet waters have water in them and which of these wet areas the geese use for resting.

If you are going to hunt on land don’t forget to check the nearby fields in order to find out what crops are growing in them. You must keep in mind that farmers usually rotate their crops, for example last year corn, this year beans, rice or wheat the next year so it is highly recommended to know in advance which of the fields have the right crops.

If you plan on hunting geese always remember to choose a feeding area as these locations are very populated, remember to ask for permission from the landowner so you won’t have any unpleasant surprises. If unfortunately the feeding area has been already leased to someone else or the owner won’t allow anyone to hunt on his land it is advisable to get the nearest available land. The closer the spot is to the feeding area, the better.

Due to the fact that goose hunting as well as duck hunting is getting more and more popular, it is getting harder and harder to find an available place to hunt ( especially for goose ). If you are aware of a goose feeding area we recommend that you secure hunting rights to it long before the season starts. You might consider helping the owner with some work around the place or by dropping a few birds every time you leave the area in order to obtain exclusive rights.

Unfortunately, some times the only way to do is to lease the land. If the price is too high and you can’t afford it the advisable thing to do is to get a few friends and secure a lease. If you gather a large number of hunters every year, then we recommend a longer-term lease. A few things that you can do in order to obtain exclusive rights is to write a leas request, a few birds as a present or a gift certificate for dinner for the owners of the land might do the trick.

Once you have obtained exclusive rights to the land be sure to place “ No Hunting “ signs if the landowner allows you. In order to maintain a good relationship with the owner, make sure you close all the gates, pick up all the shotgun shells, don’t leave any garbage laying around. Be sure not to leave blinds or decoys in the field where they may get damaged by the farm equipment or worse, the decoys/blinds might wreck the farm equipment and we are certain that you wouldn’t like that to happen.

All in all, make sure you finish all the arrangements long before the season starts so you won’t have any unpleasant surprises. Take things step by step and we assure you that your hunting days will be both exciting and fruitful.

Many places in the world have an activity of bass fishing tournaments for them to be known and to record the biggest bass existing on earth.

The tournaments are about luck, only God can say who can catch the largest bass present in the battlefield.

Flexibility is needed in the competition for carrying, and long stamina should be acquired by the players so that they can last the natures test.

And the most important things that the players should have are the skills and experience in bass fishing. These two are the key of success by each “players”. This will help them on how they will act and set up strategies on the tournaments.

There are many active tournaments like in Northwestern Ontario. There are huge tournaments to participate in, like the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship on Rainy Lake or the KBI on Lake of the Woods, and some bass fishing tournaments in Sunset Country.

Shoal Lake Bass Classic Tournament occurs in the 1st weekend in July held on Shoal Lake, Ontario. This is the primary fishery in the region with schools of Smallmouths that have never seen a lure before. Smallmouths usually win this tournament, but big Largemouths can be a factor. The winning weight for this two day tournament is usually in the 32-34 pound range!

English River Bass Challenge also occurred in Mid July, Tournament held on the English River System in Grassy Narrows, Ontario. It is a First Nation sponsored bass tournament on the mighty English River in Northwestern Ontario.

Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship is help every 3rd week in July. This is Canada’s Largest Live Release Cash Bass Tournament, with a total of $172,500.00 in cash prizes.

With a $50,000 first prize, this event on Rainy Lake attracts many of the best bass fishermen from all over North America.. The winning weight for this three day event is usually in the 55 pound range. The tournament first ran in 1995 and has been growing in size and recognition ever since.

Kenora Bass International (KBI) happened every 2nd week in August. This event on Lake of the Woods offers a $30,000 first prize. Anglers here have the opportunity to fish for largemeouths or smallmouths. Largemouths have won the tournament more than smallmouths over the last few years. If the water is high, largest will win, if it is low, smallmouths will be more of a factor. The winning weight for this three day event will be in the 45-50 pound range.

Ding Wang Ford Bass Tournaments is held every 2nd Sunday in August. This a one day Bass Fishing Tournament that welcomes anglers of all ages. The tournament is held in Dryden on the Wabigoon Chain of Lakes (excluding Dinorwic Chain). The smallmouth bass fishing tournament held on Dashawa, Crowrock and Turtle Lakes near Atikokan, Ontario. This chain of pristine northern waters has an abundance of big scrappy smallies.

Anyone who likes fishing can enter the competition. The Atikokan Bass Classic is known as the “funniest bass tourney in the Northwest”.

There are lots of tournaments that are presently existing all around the globe, like Crow Lake Classic, Last Chance Bass, Other Fishing Tournaments and Derby’s, LOWS Annual Live Release Fish Tournament, Stratton Fish Derby, Agimak Lake Fishing Tournament, Whitefish Bay Fishing Derby and Crow Lake Classic.

The classic image of bass fishing is lazing in a rowboat in the middle of a lake on a sunny afternoon. However, some smart bass enthusiasts have discovered that the best way to get great bass during the summertime months is by fishing in the dead of night. There are a lot of reasons why night fishing for bass is a great idea, so if you haven’t tried evening fishing yet, give it a shot and be prepared to reel in some winners. Summer is the most popular season for fishing, which has both positive and negative aspects for sportsmen. Because bait and equipment are in so much demand during the warmer months of the year, these goods are plentiful and easy to find as retailers stock up in order to get the best bait and tackle to their customers. However, as fishing fans flock to lakes and streams all over the country, all too often the peace and quiet of the sport becomes quite elusive as multiple sportsmen jockey for position on the same water. The summertime crowds can take away a lot of the fun of bass fishing. If you choose to fish at odd times of the night, it is likely that you will never run into the problem of overcrowding. Because only a small percentage of bass fishermen hit the water in the dark, you should have no trouble finding a pond or a lake offering plenty of solitude and a supply of fish that is all yours for the taking.

Another reason why bass fishing at night during the summer can prove to be a kind of fisherman’s jackpot has to do with the habits of the bass themselves. Bass prefer to stay cool, so they tend to head for the deepest waters that they can find during the intense heat of midday and afternoon. The deeper down in the pond the fish are lurking, the more difficult they are to catch and reel in. This can lead to fruitless afternoons of sitting in the sweltering heat and catching very little bass. However, during the cool nighttime hours, the bass come much more readily into shallow waters. This means that they are easier for sportsmen to find and to catch.

Although nighttime bass fishing can be much more rewarding than trying to snag these elusive creatures during the day, there are some disadvantages to night fishing. One problem that many sportsmen are surprised by during late night expeditions is insects. Be sure to pack some bug repellent to help you emerge from your night on the water without falling prey to mosquitoes and other warm weather pests. Another issue to consider is safety. Spending time in a boat when visibility is low because of the lack of light can be more dangerous than boating during the daytime, so make sure to take all of the necessary precautions to protect yourself and your fishing companions.

Since three-forth of the world is composed of bodies of water, it’s natural that a great number of people rely on fishing for their livelyhood or just for their recreation needs. There are numerous of fish species swimming under the lakes, seas, ponds, and rivers. Most anglers consider fishing as the delight in their purpose-driven life, a sport, as they say.

Bass fishing, at present, is considered as America’s number one freshwater sport, its industry is in fact seventy percent higher in growth compared to other types of fishing activities. Bass is a fish that belongs to the Serranidae family or sea basses and the Centrarchidae or the black basses. This family of perchlike fishes are large and oblong with compressed bodies that dwell in warm and temperate seas throughout the world.

Along the Atlantic coast, black or common sea basses a sluggish bottom fish are found. Its size averages 6 pounds or 2.7 kilograms in weight and 18 inches or 45 centimetres in length. The Pacific Sea basses, on the other hand, are giant fishes with bulky characteristics that reach a weight of 600 pounds or 270 kilograms and a length of 7 feet or 2.1 metres.

There are two things that should be considered in bass fishing, which are, the bass location on the lake or river and bass catching using different techniques, presentations and baits.

In locating bass dwellings, there are lots of different factors that have to be determined like map-reading, how to locate active bass just after cold fronts and during early spring and late fall periods, understanding water depth, water clarity, temperatures, seasonal patterns, locating structure areas and finding their vegetation areas.

In map reading, there are two general types of lake maps that most anglers use. These are the Hot Spot maps that show more fishing spots and the Topographical map which shows more details. Experiment first by taking it on shore and looking for areas where fish are most likely be. The next step would be familiarization.

In locating bass one element that should be considered is the vegetation or the area where they eat, breath and cover themselves. In other words, it is where they could be found to congregate. If there is no vegetation, other elements like irregular contours, shallow water close to deep-water areas, points and point drops and other types of structure can require alternative techniques.

The rest of the necessities are the selection of a few crankbaits. One needs a shallow diver and a deep diver but two colors of each are fine. A natural looking crankbait, one that resembles baitfish and a shocker bright one should be selected. These represent the two extremes, nonetheless are very effective.

The most successful method of catching bass is the crankbait. The throwing and retrieving method can be done with varying speed and its depth can be determined by the speed of the reeling and by the pole.

Bass love colorful lures and they seem to hit them more often. When fishing with these lures, one should always try to make them look good in the water and make the bass come after them. This can be done by making them swim as realistically as possible.

Bumping these lures against objects in the water attracts fish, but the chance of getting the lure stuck might be a risk you don’t want to take.

A worm, on the other hand, is a good lure and represents the most edible and tasty meal. Even plastic worms will do.

Before competitions became a part of it, bass fishing was reserved for seasoned anglers and did get much media coverage. It was a recreation mostly practiced in the springtime and mostly early in the mornings and late in the afternoons all over the globe. Now, it has grown tremendously in every way, from the effort to gain knowledge to the technology to the equipment used to get the best results.

As you spend more and more hours and days on bass fishing, you will acquire lots of knowledge about the right lure and technique for the proper way to do this sport. The best advice most experienced and seasoned bass fishermen, is to examine the fishing conditions, ask for tips from anglers familiar with the waters you are fishing in, and finally, try many different lures and bass-fishing techniques until you discover what works most effectively to the situation, and which one you are most comfortable with.

Here are some Guides to Bass Fishing to become a better Bass angler.

The Technique:

The bait must fall to the preferred depth, then you have to shake the rod tip. By this, you’ll be getting the fishes attention. Do this for at least 30 seconds, then shaking again for about 2 or 3 seconds intervals, stop and pull slowly about six inches. Then dropping again, slowly back and down and repeating the process. The first thing to remember if they’re not biting is to slow down.

Tips:

• During Springtime, fish uphill (position the boat in shallow water and cast to deep water) and use a 1/8 ounce weight.

• Fish downhill in Fall.

• Try to use a Texas rigged worm to prevent hang-ups.

• Fish out the worm and keep suspended 90% of the time.

• Always try to sharpen the hooks to make sure you have maximized your hookup percentage.

• When doodling, it is critical to keep your presentation natural by downsizing your hooks to 1/0 or lower, and paying delicate, attention to how straight your bait is in order to maintain a natural presentation.

• Crystal clear waters can be tough. The secret to fishing weenie worms is to keep slack on your line and “shake” the bait instead of dragging. The shaking of the rod and your light line gives your worm, grub or reaper an amazing action.

When to Go:

When the bass quit hitting during the daytime and when it becomes uncomfortably hot on the lake are good signals that it’s time to start night fishing. Night fishing is usually practiced when the water is in the mid-60s or warmer.

Places to Fish:

Where to fish at night is a question commonly asked by bass fishermen. Bass don’t move great distances in most situations. Smallmouth bass, especially, are proven stay-at-homes. As the summer wears on, the bass tend to move deeper and won’t come up shallow, even at night in many lakes. Night fishing is productive when the bass are within the 20-foot zone

Tips and Guides

• Position yourself only as far away as water clarity dictates; stay close enough for consistent accuracy.

• Try to make the lure land on the water with as little noise as possible. Cast past the target when possible.

• In windy weather, put tension on the line just before the lure touches down. This will straighten out the line and prevent it from blowing across obstructions.

• Learn casting techniques that permit a low trajectory, such as flipping, pitching, sidearm casting and underhand casting.

• Use a quality rod and reel matched to the weight of the lure. Rods with a stiff blank but relatively fast (limber) tip are easier to cast than extremely stiff or uniformly limber rods.

• Cast with the wrist, not the arm and shoulder.

• Lower the lure a few inches below the rod tip before casting; this gives extra momentum for the cast.

• Be sure to “load” the rod tip, causing it to bend backward, on the back-cast, then whip the rod forward smoothly.

• Fill the spool of any type reel to within 1/8 inch of the lip of the spool. DO NOT OVERFILL!

The Flip-Cast; use your wrist, NOT your arm.

• Concentrate on the spot you want to hit, not on what you want to miss.
• Use plenty of scent when trying to penetrate thick cover – it acts as a lubricant.
• Stick to basic jig colors (black/blue, brown/brown, black/chartreuse).
• Use a plastic worm with a glass bead between the worm and the weight for inactive fish.
• If you think it’s a strike, reel down until your rod is in a hookset position before you check.
• A strike is anything different (something you wouldn’t feel in a bathtub!).
• Tighten your drag all the way down for better hooksets.
• Use 17 to 25 pound test line for bait casting gear, 10 to 14 pound test on spinning (for flipping finesse baits).

In order to establish a pattern it is essential you understand how a bass lives in its environment. Knowing where the bass can be found at any given time or place is something you must develop. Always go fishing with a plan in mind.

Remember that every fish you catch can reveal clues on how to catch another. After establishing a pattern, realize that when the action slows down in the area you were fishing, you can then search for more areas that would fill the same criteria.

There are a few basic methods that are effective in catching catfish. Bear in mind that specific methods are applicable to specific kinds of waters. That is because techniques and baiting mixtures are formulated for specific targets.

The following methods are simple, yet proven successful when used:

1) Rigging method – Depending on the bait used, loop the bait holder or the treble hook from a line to a preferred distance to the end. Bait movement is not suggested; therefore, a weight must be used to allow the rig to be still. A good distance shall be about 18″ to 24.”

Same as the first method, using the Slipweight to make the bait stable is also effective. The weight does not matter as long as it can slide in the line. The fish will not feel any weight and it will be late until they realize that the bait is fake.

Multibait technique allows multiple catches at once. Simply place three-way swivel along the line. As it draws more strikes it makes a great choice for catching more catfish at the same time.

2) Bait – Experts opt for chicken livers or medium sized shrimp from groceries. The shrimp’s tail and skin must be removed and body should be big enough to slide up in a number 6 hook. This is simpler than the chicken which necessitates the use of pantyhose. A diameter of a quarter is wrapped in a piece of pantyhose leaving a tag end then attach it through the treble hook. Blood worms, minnows, catfish paste, night crawlers, snails, living or dead small fish, and dough baits are also good choices of baits. Remember that the best baits are always those that nature produced.

3) Chumming – Fishermen catch more catfish with this method. This is simply throwing balls of mixtures of natural recipes in the fishing area. This attracts more catfish; the trick is that the mixture should be right enough for the catfish to feed heavily. The hook that will be used to fish normally must have the same recipe for the bait. Adding a good smelling flavor into the pasty mixture attracts catfish more.

4) Tackling – Although the technique involved in this method is by far effective, it’s still the bait that attracts and brings the catfish in. As simple as it is, the tackle should be about 6 feet long with a spinning real. Choose heavier lines to allow more battle between the fisherman and the catfish. It doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive. The experience you get from a cheaper tackle is no different from an expensive one.

Make sure the grip is secure hooks are removed by pliers after catching the fish. Avoid being stuck with the fins as some are poisonous. Just simply sliding the hand up to its belly from tail, placing the fingers behind one side and thumb behind the other can remove the catfish from the hook without any harm. Happy catfishing and good luck!

Imagine having a report telling you in advance whether you will catch any fish, before you stop the boat. With the Eagle FishEasy 2 that’s just what you have, with its clear display telling you what’s going on under your boat.

The Eagle FishEasy fish finder is the type of tool that you just need to have on board when you head out onto the lake. Its the perfect fishfinder to help you see the fish activity below your boat. Its like having inside information about where to stop and fish. It will help you to impress your friends by helping you to bring home a full cooler of fish every time you head out. Here are the Eagle FishEasy 2’s features.

It all starts with the four inch display. The diagonal screen and high definition 240×160 resolution offers a good sized screen with all the details you need for success in your fish finding adventure. That is, it allows for you to have a very clear picture of what is down below. The high definition allows for a clear picture so that you can see what the sonar is bringing back to you. Having this clarity helps to improve your knowledge of where the fish are!

The sonar on board the Eagle FishEasy is good as well. You get a depth capability of 800 feet with 1500 watts of power. This depth is good for just about any average sized lake. It has a 60 degree highly sensitive fish detection capability. This means that the sonar is high quality enough to see some of the smallest of objects below and around your boat. This is helpful to know where to cast to and to know what your bait should be as well.

The other features that make the Eagle FishEasy’s sonar great include the technology known as FishReveal and HyperScroll. Each of these features is great. Fish Reveal allows you to see the fish hidden in the surface clutter or in the weeds at the floor.

Great fish catching opportunity after a rain storm.

What is that you might ask? Well sit back and read on. Drizzle fishing is all about taking a break and getting side-tracked from your normal daily activities towards the end of an afternoon or evening thunderstorm, even if only for a brief period of time. Just after the storm moves through, grab your fishing rod and head for your nearest canal, seawall or beachfront and make a few casts with your favorite fishing lure.

Keep it simple. Do not make an ordeal out of it. Get to the nearest body of water you can reach. It could be saltwater fishing off of a dock, beach or jetties for snapper, trout, redfish, flounder, tarpon or snook; or a fresh water river, pond or canal for bass. Just take a spinning rod and reel, and a couple of easy fishing lures like soft plastics and topwater plugs.

This type of fishing is pleasurable, relaxing and productive. On many occasions such as this my work day will suddenly stop! I then get up out of my chair which is perched in front of my work computer, immediately grab my fishing rod and head off down to the fresh water canal behind the house and start throwing a soft plastic lure or worm. I often concentrate my casts around the storm drains since noticing that the bass will often times congregate around these after a storm, possibly waiting for their next meal to wash out of the drain.

Depending on when you make it to the water after the rain storm, you may find yourself standing and fishing in a rain drizzle. That is ok. Just relax, cast, take long deep breaths and enjoy the moment. Just be careful not to be out during any remaining lightning.

Fishing this way is not only therapeutic, you will catch fish too! Not being a scientist, I can not tell you why, maybe it’s the change in pressure, but you will probably notice that many times after a storm moves through the bite will turn on during the calm period. Take advantage of this fishing opportunity time when you can. You will be glad you did. It will enable you to clear your mind of the strains and tensions that your normal work day puts you through, sometimes catch a few fish, then get back to your day feeling just a little bit better.

The inspiration for this modest writing came from my own recent drizzle fishing experience and yes, was even lucky enough to catch six bass in a short period of time. After the bite was over, I quickly returned back to my computer and typed these thoughts. Give it a try yourself.

Fishing With Jigs

There seems to be one thing most anglers do that isn’t quite right. That’s how they fish a jig. Most fish it faster they they should. Jigging can produce a nice quanity of bass but it’s main goal is to produce quality bass.

In The Spring

Fish brush, lily pads that are just coming up, boat docks and rocks. Try fishing shallow water, it warms up fastest. Fish with a 1/2 ounce jig tipped with pork.

In The Summer

Now is when most anglers go to a faster moving lure, you should try jigging. Fish creek beds, channels, grass and lily pads.

In The Fall

Try fishing jigs around wood. Logs, stumps, boat docks and downed trees are good places to fish your jig this time of year. Also try the lily pads that are dying off.

In The Winter

Rivers are great for winter fishing. Try to find slow moving water in the 3 to 9 foot range. A heavier jigs like a 3/8 ounce tipped with pork works good. Deep water can find schools of bass in slow moving water.

Jigging can be one of the best bass producing methods if you fish it slow enough. Keep the jig in front of the fish, move it very slow and you’ll have good results if there are fish to be caught.
